Afrobeats sensation Mayorkun recently took a trip down memory lane, recalling how his life was changed forever after Davido discovered him on social media. Mayorkun’s rise to fame began in 2016 when he released a cover of Davido’s “The Money” single.
Davido discovered him on Twitter and signed him on his record label, DMW. His debut single “Eleko” became an instant hit, and he went on to win the Next Rated category at The Headies in 2018.
Fondly called ‘The Mayor of Lagos’, Mayorkun relived memories of his encounter with Davido, while delivering a heartfelt intro at the TraceLive x Tiger Beer concert, in Lagos.
The singer expressed his gratitude to Davido for changing his life and giving him the opportunity to share his gift with the world. He also acknowledged the special bond he shares with his fans, who have been with him every step of the way.
I came into this world just like every other person”, he began in a soft tone “but God gave me a gift on my way here. On my way to fulfill my destiny, I met a man called Davido and everything changed. Now, I have the opportunity to meet far more people than I can ever imagine. I’m about to take you guys on a journey – how it all started and how it’s going. My name is Mayorkun, The Mayor Of Lagos!”
Mayorkun’s performance at the TraceLive x Tiger Beer concert featured his hit singles, including “Eleko” and “Of Lagos.”
Eyo dancers added a touch of Lagos culture to the performance, just as Poco Lee made a surprise appearance, hyping up the crowd and adding to the energy of the performance.
