Nollywood filmmaker, Wendy Imasuen has attributed his rise to prominence in the industry to Funke Akindele’s highest-grossing film,
“Imasuen, who produced the crime comedy, revealed that his career trajectory changed significantly after the movie’s massive success. Ghetto: The Saga.”
The film, released in 2020 became the highest-grossing Nigerian movie of all time, hitting N636.1 million in the box office. Imasuen produced the film, while Funke Akindele was the Executive Producer. The Edo State-born filmmaker said producing “Omo Ghetto: The Saga” brought him into the limelight and expressed gratitude to Funke Akindele and her ex-husband, JJC Skillz for the opportunity. He described Funke Akindele as “a great person”.
“God bless Funke Akindele and her ex-husband, JJC Skillz for giving me the platform where I stand today. Since I produced “Omo Ghetto; The Saga”, my story has changed in the industry,” Imasuen said in a recent chat with NollyNow.
Imasuen also shared his inspiring story of rejecting a lucrative bank job offer from Zenith Bank to pursue his passion for filmmaking. Despite being the best graduating student in his class, he turned down the offer, opting instead to follow his dreams. “I graduated as the best student in my department. I was offered a job at Zenith Bank, but I rejected the offer. I didn’t know that some companies do come to scout for fresh graduates to employ during graduation ceremonies. As a tradition, I was offered a job at Zenith Bank but I turned down the offer because of the passion I have for filmmaking,” Imasuen narrated.
