Students of University of Ibadan, Distance Learning Center, have expressed concerns and dissatisfaction over the difficulties they experience in writing their exams
While speaking to press men, the students attributed a list of factors affecting the smooth and timely sitting for their CBT examinations to Improper Scheduling, Irregular Batching, late commencement, technical problems amongst others.
Gafar Amoo, a 200 Level Sociology Student explained that the original time schedule for the exams are not being followed or used as the impromptu change of exam schedule and venue is challenging.
“I feel like it(the exam) has actually been a bit challenging for me cos most times when I get to school very early I end up writing my exams very late and sometimes we have issues with our batch centers”. Amoo Said.
“They have to schedule us to another place, For instance we are supposed to write our exams at 12 noon today but we have not gotten any update and it’s looking like we have to write it late today”. He added.
“The shifting and changing of the schedule is really challenging for me and I am very sure it’s challenging for other students too”. Amoo Stressed.
Students further complained that the exam schedule were not well organized, they had issues with insufficient sitting space and technical problems with using the computers to do their exams.
“The exams are not too organized, because their are clashes, batching are clashing, some people are coming early, some are coming late and the halls are not enough for the number of students coming from Lagos and other places”. Precious Oluwayemi, a 300 level English department student pointed.
“The issue of computer failure and technical issue are delaying a lot of things and I could recall last year that there are issues of exams that people could not write exam so some started writing around 9pm and they are going home around 10pm, so these things are sometimes the fault of the management and you know technical issues are not things you plan for.” She explained.
Atanda Oluwaseun, a 400 level sociology department student advised the management to prepare computer system softwares in alignment with exam schedule, and also employ competent technical personnel’s to tackle the problems and difficulties experienced in writing the CBT exams
“My suggestion is that, they drafted the time table so they ought to have done the necessary arrangement in terms of preparing their software system on or before the commencement of the exam”. Atanda Proffered.
“I think they don’t have competent personnels who have adequate technical know how of their equipments, If they can engage more competent hands to handle there systems and technical support I think that will be better and it will solve the issue of technical errors and clashing of exam times, Infact students have been complaining of all the irregularities since the commencement of the exam and it’s not like we are not paying enough money but the fact is there is no changes, I think they need to find a lasting solution”. He said.
Voices Media Reports that the University of Ibadan Distance Learning Centre First Semester Examinations for 2022/2023 session commenced on Monday, 19th February 2024 and will end on Saturday, 23rd March 2024.
